A memorable drift

March 14, 2018

Today I had the pleasure of showing one of my best friends the ropes. We spent the afternoon fly fishing on the Sacramento River with great success. With every fish came a great laugh and burst of excitement. This is one of my favorite fisheries as it stays very consistent year round and always produces great memories.

My Turn!

January 17, 2018

It was a fun afternoon day of drifting with a couple of good friends after class. It isn't often that I het a spot on the front of the drift boat with no responsibilities other than drifting a line. when I get the chance I do my best to take advantage of it and today we were on them! the fly of choice today was a P.M.D. cracked back nymph.

Big Wild Rainbows Never Get Old

January 14, 2018

A winter pattern has developed on the Lower Sacramento. Most of our strikes are coming on small nymphs; smaller than you would think. I have been fishing a three fly rig with sizes 18, 20, and 22 with the great majority of fish coming on a size 22 Glass Bead Baetis. Here is a gorgeous one boated by Neil Amundson.

Wet Nets on the Lower Sac.

December 10, 2017

The Bite was good today with many strikes and several big fish brought to the boat. A happy client brought this one to the net just in time to take a great picture with the scenic Sundial bridge in the background.

Winter Egg Eaters!

December 8, 2017

Kevin came to me curious about what he had been doing wrong over the months that he had spent fly fishing the Sacramento River. It didn't take long to get him onto this bead biting wild rainbow!

The Egg bite is here!

November 30, 2017

Every fall the Salmon filter into the upper stretches of the Sacramento River and into the heart of Redding to spawn. When this takes place nothing will produce more trout than a well drifted Egg imitation in the form of a Glo Bug or a Troutbead.

Big Rainbows on the Sac.

July 4, 2016

Buck enjoyed a great fight from this healthy native Rainbow Trout. the fish took him for two huge runs into the backing of his fly reel and made several acrobatic jumps before making it to the net.  Several fish were caught today, this one was the largest measuring in at 23 inches.
