Jacob Frye’s Guide Service offers premier angling opportunities across the most productive waters of the West Coast. Led by Captain Jacob Frye, a lifelong angler who learned the craft from his father, this service provides a top-tier Sacramento River fishing guide experience. Operating out of Anderson, California, Captain Jacob specializes in navigating the "hottest spots" of the river to target legendary Rainbow Trout and hard-fighting King Salmon. Whether you are looking for a Sacramento River salmon fishing charter or a specialized trout trip, the focus is always on local expertise and high-quality customer service. Beyond the riverbanks of Northern California, the service expands to offer world-class Gold Beach OR salmon fishing charter trips. During the summer and fall, Captain Jacob transitions to the coast to act as a premier Rogue Bay salmon fishing guide. This unique estuary fishery is famous for consistent pushes of "bright" King Salmon entering from the Pacific. Anglers can expect a professional Gold Beach fishing guide experience that utilizes trolling and light tackle techniques to land some of the hardest-fighting Chinook and Coho Salmon found anywhere on the West Coast. The fleet features a 25’ Alumaweld boat, meticulously maintained and designed to accommodate up to six guests comfortably. This vessel is the perfect platform for a private fishing charter in Shasta Lake, CA, or a drift boat style trip on the Sacramento. As a dedicated Shasta Lake fishing guide, Captain Jacob tailors each outing to the group’s preferences, offering both fly fishing and conventional tackle options. All necessary rods, reels, and lures are provided, ensuring that whether you are booking a Shasta Lake bass fishing charter or a river trip, you have the professional gear required for success. Sustainability and relationship-building are at the heart of every trip. By practicing catch-and-release and using barbless hooks on the river, the service ensures that these fisheries remain healthy for future generations. This commitment makes it the best fishing guide near Anderson, CA, for families and beginners looking for an educational and welcoming environment. From the deep waters of a Shasta Lake trout fishing charter to the scenic reaches of the Feather River, Captain Jacob treats every client like family, focusing on providing a rewarding day on the water that goes far beyond just the catch.

For Captain Jacob Frye, the rivers and coastal waters of the West have always been home. Growing up as the son of a professional guide, Jacob spent his formative years assisting on his father’s boat every chance he got. This early immersion provided him with an education that can’t be found in books—a deep-rooted understanding of fish behavior, river currents, and the subtle shifts in local ecosystems. Following in those footsteps was a natural progression, fueled by a desire to carry on a family legacy of excellence in Northern California and Southern Oregon. Today, he brings that lifetime of inherited knowledge to every outing, ensuring his guests are led by someone who truly understands the rhythm of the water. What keeps Jacob motivated after years on the river is the genuine connection he builds with the people on his boat. He views every guest as a friend or family member, prioritizing a welcoming atmosphere where the focus is on the overall experience. While he takes great pride in his technical skills, he finds his greatest reward in the reactions of his anglers—especially the younger generation. Seeing a child’s face light up after landing their first significant catch is a reminder of why he chose this path. It’s about creating a space where people can step away from the daily grind and find a real sense of accomplishment and joy in the natural world. The geographical range Jacob covers, from the deep stretches of the Sacramento River near Anderson and Colusa to the rugged coastline of Gold Beach, Oregon, is a testament to his versatility as a guide. He is deeply appreciative of the diversity found in these regions, which allow him to transition seamlessly between targeting King Salmon, Steelhead, Striped Bass, and Sturgeon. Jacob thrives on the variety these waters offer, finding that the seasonal changes keep the work interesting and the opportunities world-class. His expertise isn’t limited to just one "honey hole"; he has spent years mapping out the intricacies of Shasta Lake and the Rogue River to provide his guests with a comprehensive look at the region’s best fisheries.
Professional Equipment: The 25’ Alumaweld
A successful day on the water requires a platform that is as reliable as the guide himself. Jacob operates a meticulously maintained 25’ Alumaweld boat, a vessel specifically chosen for its stability, safety, and ability to comfortably accommodate up to six guests. Whether you are navigating the steady flows of the Sacramento River for a drift-style trip or heading out on a private Shasta Lake charter, this boat provides a spacious and clean environment for a full day of fishing. To ensure every guest is set up for success, Jacob provides top-tier professional rods, reels, and lures. Each trip is tailored to the group's specific goals, offering both conventional tackle and fly fishing setups to match your preferred style and skill level.

Frequently Asked Questions for Jacob Frye's Guide Service What is included in a Jacob Frye's Guide Service fishing charter in Anderson or Colusa? When you book a trip on the Sacramento River, we provide everything you need for a productive day on the water. This includes all professional-grade rods, reels, and lures tailored for the specific species we are targeting, whether it is King Salmon or Rainbow Trout. We also provide all necessary safety equipment and a comfortable seat on our 25’ Alumaweld boat. You just need to bring your license, seasonal clothing, and your preferred snacks and drinks. How much does a full-day fishing charter cost in Gold Beach, Oregon? Our 2026 pricing for a full-day coastal or estuary trip in Gold Beach is designed to be competitive and transparent. Rates can vary slightly depending on the number of anglers in your party and the specific target species, such as Rogue Bay Salmon or nearshore Lingcod. For the most accurate and up-to-date quote for your specific dates, we recommend checking our dedicated Rates page or calling us directly. What is the best time of year to fish the Sacramento River with a guide? The "best" time depends on what you want to catch, as these waters offer world-class opportunities throughout the year. For those targeting the legendary Fall Run King Salmon, July through December is the peak window. If you are looking for Striped Bass near Colusa, the spring months of April through June are fantastic. For year-round action, our trout and steelhead trips in Anderson offer consistent results regardless of the season. Do I need to bring my own fishing gear for a Shasta Lake bass fishing trip? No, you do not need to bring any tackle or equipment. Jacob Frye’s Guide Service provides high-quality conventional and fly fishing gear for all guests. However, if you have a favorite rod that you are particularly comfortable with, you are more than welcome to bring it along. We ensure that every angler, from beginners to pros, has the professional tools required for success on Shasta Lake. Is fish cleaning and filleting included in my Gold Beach fishing trip?Yes! Part of the service we provide is ensuring your catch is ready for the kitchen. At the end of our legal limits or the conclusion of the trip, we will professionally clean and fillet your salmon, lingcod, or rockfish at no extra charge. We recommend bringing a medium-sized cooler to keep in your vehicle so you can transport your fresh fillets home safely. Where do we meet for a Sacramento River fishing charter near Colusa or Anderson?Meeting locations can vary based on where the fish are most active at the time of your trip. We typically utilize well-known public boat launches in Anderson, Colusa, or Red Bluff. Once your date is secured, Captain Jacob will contact you 24–48 hours before your trip to confirm the exact launch site and meeting time based on the most recent fishing reports and river conditions. Can Jacob Frye's Guide Service accommodate large groups or corporate outings? Our 25’ Alumaweld vessel is meticulously maintained to comfortably accommodate up to six guests per trip. This makes it an ideal platform for families, small groups of friends, or corporate team-building events. If you have a group larger than six, please contact us in advance; we can often coordinate with other trusted local guides to ensure your entire party gets out on the water together. What should I bring for a day of fishing on Shasta Lake or the Rogue River? To ensure you stay comfortable, we recommend dressing in layers, as mornings on the water can be chilly even in the summer. Essential items include a valid California or Oregon fishing license (with necessary stamps), polarized sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, and your lunch or snacks. Because we operate an open boat, rain gear is also a good idea if the forecast looks unsettled. Are children and beginner anglers welcome on your charters?Absolutely. We specialize in family-friendly fishing adventures and take great pride in teaching the next generation of anglers. Captain Jacob has years of experience working with children and beginners, ensuring the techniques used are easy to learn and fun to execute. We focus on providing a patient, relaxed, and safe environment so that everyone leaves the boat with more confidence and great memories. How do I book a trip with Jacob Frye's Guide Service in California or Oregon?Booking your adventure is simple and can be done by calling us at 530-410-3174 or by using the contact form on our website. Because peak seasons for King Salmon and Steelhead fill up months in advance, we recommend reaching out as early as possible to secure your preferred dates on the Sacramento River or the Oregon coast.
