Rogue River - Polk, OR River Report on 13th Feb, 2026

Fishing in Gold Beach is currently centered on the peak of the Winter Steelhead migration and consistent Bottom Fishing opportunities when the ocean bars allow for safe passage. Jacob Frye’s Guide Service is actively monitoring river flows and ocean swells to ensure the best windows for success. River Report: Rogue River Steelhead The Rogue River is in its prime window for Winter Steelhead. With the recent rains stabilizing, the river has a perfect "steelhead green" tint, which is ideal for visibility. We are finding the most success using side-drifting techniques with cured roe and small yarn balls. Most fish are holding in the deeper tailouts and softer seams as they push upriver from the salt. Current Strategy: We are focusing on the lower river sections near the bank where fish are traveling. Fish Quality: The fish coming in are bright, ocean-fresh "chrome," with many hatchery fish available for harvest. Ocean Report: Rockfish and Lingcod On days when the Pacific is calm, the nearshore reefs just outside Rogue Bay are producing excellent numbers of Black Rockfish and Lingcod. Using light tackle and vertical jigs, we have been able to secure quick limits. The Lingcod are starting to move into shallower water for their late-winter spawning cycle, making them more accessible to our 25' Alumaweld boat. Primary Targets: Blue and Black Rockfish, with trophy-sized Lingcod mixed in. Technique: Soft plastic swimbait jigs and live bait (when available) are the top producers right now. Looking Ahead: Spring Chinook While the focus is currently on Steelhead, we are already seeing early signs of the Spring Chinook run. A few "scout" fish usually begin to show up in late February. If you are looking to target the "best tasting salmon in the world," now is the time to secure your dates for March and April.

Sacramento River - Contra Costa, CA River Report on 13th Feb, 2026

Recent Success on the Water with Jacob Frye’s Guide Service The Sacramento River continues to provide productive opportunities for anglers near Anderson and Colusa, California. Current conditions have stabilized, creating a consistent environment for both resident species and seasonal migrations. Fishing remains steady for Rainbow Trout, with many fish being found in the riffles and deeper slots. We are primarily utilizing conventional tackle with a mix of bait and lures to target these fish. Many of the trout currently being landed are showing significant size, providing a high-quality experience for both new and seasoned anglers. The King Salmon season is also seeing movement. We are focusing our efforts on the early morning bite, departing at 7:00 AM to capitalize on peak activity levels. Using the 25’ Alumaweld jet boat, we can navigate quickly to the most active holes. Success has been found by staying mobile and adjusting to the specific flow rates of the river. Striped Bass activity is beginning to pick up as well. For those looking for a different pace, our evening sessions starting at 3:00 PM have been effective, as the fish tend to become more aggressive as the light fades. Current Recommended Gear: Trout: Light spinning tackle with glo-bugs or small spinners. Salmon: Heavy-duty casting rods with specialized lures or cured roe. Stripers: Medium-action rods for casting lures into "boils" or jigging deeper structures. The river is currently in great shape, and the forecast suggests these patterns will hold for the coming week.
